I find myself with great pleasure in front of the mythical hall L’Olympia in Paris.
For my first time in this exceptional place, I attend the concert of a famous German metal band: Avantasia. For this unique date in France, Tobias Sammet, the singer, has privileged the last opus of the group: « Moonglow« . Fans have responded to this evening that promises to be magical.
In front of me, the bright red signs for the announcement of the concert, my eyes full of stars.
I enter the hall, it’s a surprise to see such a big place. A very beautiful room.
Spectators enter the concert hall, with a pit large enough to accommodate the audience, but also its balcony with a capacity of « about 1996 people » overlooking us. Enough, but nice.
The fans, dressed in t-shirts with the effigy of the group, are massaged in the pit. The crowd is ready to welcome Avantasia, but in the first part we are entitled to a metal DJ who passes on his turntables Powerwolf, Gamma Ray, Dee Snider, and many others. Friendly but a little long, the public begins to get impatient.
The DJ goes away, the lights go out and the fans start singing the band’s songs in chorus. The audience is hot and impatient, but happy. The music begins and surprise, the curtain becomes blue and then detaches on « Beethoven’s Ode to Joy », to make appear Tobias Sammet, and the members of the group.
The fans are hysterical and sing in heart, goosebumps assured. It is to live at least once in his life.
The band begins the show by playing « Ghost in the Moon« , a quiet beginning. Fans sing with Tobias, thrills guaranteed. Then follow « Starlight« , « Book of Shallows » and « Master of the Pendulum » in duet with Ronnie Atkins, singer of the band Pretty Maids. A very good duo, without any false note.
The following titles: « The Raven Child & Lucifer« , « Let the Storm Descend Upon You« , « The Scarecrow » are duet with Norwegian singer Jørn Lande of Ark and Masterplan groups. Superb vocal harmony on these titles.
Next is Geoff Tate, who is none other than the singer of Operation: Mindcrime, who sings with Tobias on the tracks « Alchemy« , « Invincible« , « Twisted Mind« , « Avantasia« , a duet in great shape.
Follows « Reach Out for the Light » in duet with Oliver Hartmann, guitarist, singer and author for different groups, present tonight for the delight of the fans.
The audience is thoroughly. The fans do not tire, they sing and scream.
The next duo will be with Adrienne Cowan, for the title: « Moonglow & Farewell« . A multi-faceted singer. Her tone of voice makes us think of Alyssa from Arch Enemy. A very good moment.
The next title is none other than the famous title of the movie « Flash Dance« : « Maniac« . Surprising, this cover of Michael Sembello duet with Eric Martin, singer of Mr. Big. All of us and the audience sang this well-known song together.
The show continues with « Dying for an Angel « , always in duet with Eric Martin, very energetic on stage.
A new duet with Bob Catley, the singer of hard rock band Magnum on the tracks: « Lavender« , « The Story is not Over« , « Shelter from the Rain« , « Mystery of a Blood Red Rose« . Pieces of bravery and an excellent duet.
On the latest tracks: « Promised Land« , « Lost in Space« , « Sign of the Cross / The Seven Angels« , all the singers present tonight get together for an exceptional finale.
The public is galvanized after such a spectacle and all the artists of this memorable evening are acclaimed as it should be by the pit and the balcony of a delirious Olympia. The image of the musicians arm in arm will remain as the last of a magical moment where we have rarely seen so many talents unite, for an evening of pure happiness.
Tobias has filled fans’ expectations for the presentation of his new album recently released by Nuclear Blast.

Je me retrouve avec grand plaisir devant la salle mythique de L’Olympia.
Pour ma première dans ce lieu exceptionnel, j’assiste au concert d’un groupe de metal allemand réputé : Avantasia. Pour cette unique date en France, Tobias Sammet, le chanteur, a privilégié le dernier opus du groupe : « Moonglow« . Les fans ont répondu présent pour cette soirée qui s’annonce magique.
Face à moi, l’enseigne de l’Olympia, brillante de rouge pour l’annonce du concert, les yeux pleins d’étoiles.
Je rentre dans le hall, c’est la surprise de voir un lieu aussi grand. Une très belle salle.
Les spectateurs font leur entrée dans la salle de concert, avec une fosse assez grande pour recevoir le public, mais aussi son balcon d’une capacité de « environ 1996 personnes » qui nous surplombe. Assez imposant, mais sympathique.
Les fans, vêtus de tee-shirts à l’effigie du groupe, sont massés dans la fosse. La foule est prête à accueillir Avantasia, mais en première partie nous avons droit à un DJ version metal qui nous passe sur ses platines Powerwolf, Gamma Ray, Dee Snider, et bien d’autres. Prestation sympathique mais un peu longue, le public commence à s’impatienter .
Le DJ s’en va, les lumières s’éteignent et les fans commencent à chanter en chœur les titres du groupe. Le public est chaud et impatient, mais content. La musique commence et surprise, le rideau devient bleu puis détache sur L’Ode à la joie de Beethoven, pour faire apparaître Tobias Sammet, et les membres du groupe.
Les fans sont hystériques et chantent en cœur, c’est l’émotion assurée. C’est à vivre au moins une fois dans sa vie.
Le groupe commence le show en interprétant « Ghost in the Moon« , un début calme. Les fans chantent avec Tobias, frissons garantis. Suivent « Starlight« , « Book of Shallows » et « Master of the Pendulum » en duo avec Ronnie Atkins, chanteur du groupe Pretty Maids. Un très bon duo, sans fausse note.
Les titres suivants : « The Raven Child & Lucifer« , « Let the Storm Descend Upon You« , « The Scarecrow » sont en duo avec Jørn Lande chanteur norvégien des groupes Ark et Masterplan. Superbe harmonie vocale sur ces titres.
C’est ensuite Geoff Tate, qui n’est autre que le chanteur du groupe Operation: Mindcrime qui chante avec Tobias sur les titres : « Alchemy« , « Invincible« , « Twisted Mind« , Avantasia. Un duo en très grande forme.
Suit « Reach Out for the Light » en duo avec Oliver Hartmann, guitariste, chanteur et auteur pour différents groupes, présent ce soir au grand bonheur des fans.
Le public est à fond. Les fans ne fatiguent pas, ils chantent et hurlent.
Le duo suivant sera avec Adrienne Cowan, pour le titre : « Moonglow & Farewell« . Une chanteuse à plusieurs facettes dans sa carrière. Son ton de voix nous fait penser à Alyssa de Arch Enemy. Un très bon moment.
Le titre suivant n’est autre que le célèbre titre du film « Flash Dance » : « Maniac« . Surprenant, cette reprise de Michael Sembello en duo avec Eric Martin, chanteur de Mr. Big. Tout le public et moi-même avons chanté en chœur cette chanson très connue.
Le show continue avec « Dying for an Angel », toujours en duo avec Eric Martin, très énergique sur scène.
Un nouveau duo avec Bob Catley, le chanteur du groupe de hard rock Magnum sur les titres : « Lavender« , « The Story Ain’t Over« , « Shelter from the Rain« , « Mystery of a Blood Red Rose« . Des morceaux de bravoure et un excellent duo.
Sur derniers titres : « Promised Land« , « Lost in Space« , « Sign of the Cross / The Seven Angels« , tous les chanteurs présents ce soir se réunissent pour un final exceptionnel.
Le public est galvanisé après un tel spectacle et tous les artistes de cette soirée mémorable sont acclamés comme il se doit par la fosse et le balcon d’un Olympia en délire. L’image des musiciens bras dessus bras dessous restera comme la dernière d’un moment magique où l’on a rarement vu autant de talents s’unir, pour une soirée de pur bonheur.
Tobias a comblé l’attente des fans pour la présentation de son nouvel album sorti dernièrement chez Nuclear Blast.
